Week 1: Aug. 24-30
During my first week I was able to research about the company I am interning for, DiscoverTec. Since I am running all social media accounts I not only did research about the company, but what tricks I can use to boost their PR. I am in charge of all Facebook, Pinterest, Google+, Twitter, Tumblr and Instagram posts – making sure to post daily and find creative articles for readers to enjoy.
I was also given the opportunity to help shoot a commercial for Rayonier Inc. where I was able to meet and help interview the CEO, CFO, Senior Vice President and Director of Communication.
Week 2 Aug. 31-Sept. 6
This week I have been given the tasks to re-vamp their websites. We are currently researching more websites to utilize for our clients, currently we have 12 to look into, so I am in charge of researching 6 of them. On Monday I re-worked their Pinterest account and organized their Twitter — making groups and lists to put followers in. On Wednesday we were trained on how to use the new web-pages.
Contently is one of the websites DiscoverTec is using and I had to transfer all their blog articles from their web page onto this new site. Although never hearing about Contently until now, it’s a fairly easy site to navigate — similar to Facebook posts. All users have to do is copy and paste the link and the website makes it into a Story — adding images and bio’s to make it more appealing to readers.
Week 3: Sept. 7-13
During this week I was able to enjoy Labor Day off. On Wednesday I began working on the Contently site again for DiscoverTec. Although tedious and time consuming, it was interesting to see how Contently works and all of the features it has to offer our clients — it allows users to share their blog posts with back-links and is extremely simple once you get going. It works by copying and pasting an original blog post and allows users to add images and mini-bio’s about the content they’re sharing.
After finishing the Contently site, I was given notes about a MOZ Webinar, How to Craft an Advanced Social Content Strategy, to read and familiarize myself with. I was also given time to finish making headers for blogs and uploaded new icons to some DiscoverTec sites.
Week 4: Sept. 14-20
This week not only was I designated to keep up with social media sites and make posts on the Twitter and Pinterest page but I was also in charge of completing content research for DiscoverTec. I was able to research about 6 sites – some were awesome and will be extremely useful while others were mediocre. Out of the 6, I found 2 useful sites to use – one allows companies to put in their information and customers can use it as a compare-and-contrast. It is similar to Yelp but more tech-savvy and up-to-date. The other site was Storify, which allows users to create mini-stories of their content and allows back-links to be put in. Both of these sites foster a learning environment based on community involvement.
Week 5: Sept. 21-27
I was able to get a lot of new social media work done for DiscoverTec this week. I was researching new sites to use and updated old ones. I posted articles to the social media accounts: Twitter, Google+, Tumblr, Medium and Pinterest. I also did earned media research for infographics – researching the domain authority, root domain, total links, back-links and seeing if they were followed or not. I helped out with more content research, we had 12 sites to research and I completed research for 9 of them. We have been looking into new websites to utilize for social and I was in charge of figuring out our newest one, Shocase. I had to create my own personal profile which helped me figure out how to manage the site, I then created a profile for our CEO to use to control the company profile.
Week 6: Sept. 28-Oct. 4
During this time I focused on doing new media research. I was also updating our social media accounts and making sure websites were updated. We have been focusing on researching new websites to use so I have been researching and looking into each of them and how they can benefit DiscoverTec and their clients – creating personal accounts so I could get access to what the sites have to offer and see if they are beneficial for the company and our clients. I was in charge of finding blog ideas for DiscoverTec for the month of October – I looked at previous articles to see which topics were shared and viewed the most and used that to form ideas.
Week 7 : Oct. 5-11
During this week I spent most of my time working on visuals for the DiscoverTec blog articles. For this, I used Canva to create a way to showcase all the information by use of bullet points and images – the goal was to create something similar to a PowerPoint presentation but more visually appealing. I was also creating blog ideas for a DiscoverTec client, 24/7 Pediatric Care Centers, and I was in charge of creating a write-up of article ideas for their blog so that the marketing team could present it to them during their first meeting.
Week 8: Oct. 12-18
During this week I interned 3 days and was in charge of creating visuals for the company’s blog articles. They are planning on uploading the visuals to sites like Four Square – to create a more appealing way of showing their work. I did work for social media and created posts while also doing general research. During my time there this week I also helped out with HR – filing, created folders for clients and sending out invite invitations for client events. I researched articles about the effects of blogging for one of the marketing team members to present to our clients during review – how blogging can benefit their brand. I also met to go over my midterm evaluation where I talked about my progress and time there thus far.
Week 9: Oct. 19-25
During this week I created visuals for the DiscoverTec blog articles. We are sharing them onto new platforms so I am creating ways to showcase information rather than have it all in text form. I also researched about Facebook and LinkedIn advertisements for one of our clients — I had to get pricing, demographics, audience information, etc. and find which combinations reached a larger group of people.
Week 10: Oct. 26-Nov. 1
This week I was able to create a lot of new content for our Slideshare site. I continued making visuals of our written blog articles to share them on multiple media platforms. I took advantage of our social media accounts and made posts about updates of new blog articles that have been posted to our website. I also took on making a Tumblr page for one of our clients, 24/7 Pediatric Care Centers – we are hoping to create a new blog platform for them. I also re-made one of our older clients Tumblr pages, they have re-branded so I needed to update all their information to ensure that it was current and accurate.
Week 11: Nov. 2-8
I spent time working on the companies Tumblr and Medium websites – posting articles to each site and editing the webpages. I was in charge of researching 3 sites to use, one which was Storify, to see how these sites can benefit our clients and which each ones niche is. I worked on an excel document with keywords, logging in search entries and moving data from one document to another. This week I was also given time to work on the DiscoverTec social media sites.
Week 12: Nov. 9-15
On Monday I looked up new sites and created info sheets for them. I helped out with HR tasks and made sure to be maintaining the DiscoverTec media sites – making posts and updating sites.
Week 13: Nov. 16-22
I helped out with HR by sending out holiday invitations and organizing the new company who moved into our building. I made posts on the DiscoverTec Twitter and Google+ pages and worked on the Pinterest, Medium and Twitter accounts. I was in charge of setting up a Contently and Medium account for one of our clients. We were also conducting interviews for next semester’s interns and I was able to help facilitate and sat in on one of the interviews as well.
Week 14: 23-29
On Monday I re-made the info-graphics we have hung up and re-posted them – 15 total. I also worked on creating visuals for the DiscoverTec blog articles and read a MOZ article to take notes on for the rest of the marketing team to review.
Week 15: Nov. 30-Dec. 6
